Say, we could use your help! 02/17/2012
We're trying to decide on a logo for this year's Take the Lake event campaign (which will be themed for educators, but you didn't hear that, 'cause it's still a secret...) We can't decide on a schoolhouse. Which one do you do you like? Add Comment Post Title. 02/09/2012
Visit the site for our latest little fitness project. Walk With Jesus is not your ordinary walkathon or 5k run, but much more! On Easter Sunday, we'll have a sunrise service in downtown Whiteville. Then we'll handwrite the entire New Testament. That will take about 1,000 people on more than three miles of sidewalk, which will make for a very interesting and long walk to see it all! Here's the website! Reindeer walk, run and dash! 12/12/2011
Congratulations to Rachel Smith and her volunteers, who organized a 5K run this weekend. The Reindeer Dash attracted nearly 200 participants who ran from Edgewood Elementary School in Whiteville, through McKenzie Woods subdivision a few times, and back. Open to the public, the event was also a final run for area schoolchildren participating in Girls on the Run and STRIDE programs. Smith has been integral in bringing those exciting exercise and confidence-building programs to the county, and we are so pleased with her efforts! Join the club for fitness year 'round! 10/24/2011
We have heard of a few exercise clubs in the county, and we would like encourage them to grow and for you to join them, so here is what we know:
It's about TIME! 10/10/2011
I have got to streamline this process next year so I can post your times quicker, but for now, I'm just thrilled I have them ready for you. I still need to get some bugs out, and then I'll post the names, without times, in The News Reporter. So look for your name in print, coming soon to a newsstand near you! I don't know what I would have done without the BB&T Official Take the Lake Timing Crew. You think this took a while, well, without them, I'd still be at square one. Thanks, BB&T and all volunteers! Find your times listed under each PEC. Team Gore sets the pace for families in 2012 09/27/2011
A Take the Lake Charter Family, the klan around Jackson and Janet Gore of Whiteville and Lake Waccamaw have participated in Take the Lake since the pilot event in 2008, and have been avid supporters since. The Gores have helped design and establish Take the Lake X-TREME!, which attracted 12 participants this Labor Day weekend. They were also instrumental in the mile marker project around the lake in 2010. This year, they invited their extended family and friends to join Team Gore and help design a new team concept and roster banner that may be available to interested groups in the future. With the team banner, groups of families, churches, or other organizations -- either tightly or loosely "knit" -- may form informal teams to rally support, share experiences and build fellowship. Thanks, Team Gore! How my ‘genius’ helped Take the Lake 09/23/2011
It’s not like me to be so immodest, really, but I think that bragging is appropriate when it is appropriate, and it’s time I got the word out as to how my rocket-surgeon-level genius helped improve Take the Lake this year. So impressive were my feats that I shall dispense with further introductions and get right into the braggadocio. First, choosing to hold the event in and around Lake Waccamaw State Park was top-shelf genius. That is a wonderful park, and the staff there are as good as they come. They keep the place looking beautiful year-round – you all know – but without It's on the streets now, this full-page photo spread in the Living section of The News Reporter, but you can see it right here! Just click that image at left, or right here. We crammed more than 40 photographs by four photographers, and one inspirational message onto the page, in a Take the Lake tradition. Take the Lake X-TREME! 2011 participant Eric Fogleman of Aberdeen, N.C. was so moved by his experience in Lake Waccamaw that he wrote his new friends a letter describing his trials and tribulations through his 12-hour ordeal.
