The 2013 Take the Lake thank-you gift.
The official 2013 Take the Lake thank-you gifts are ready, hot out of the kiln. (To see our five-year collection of thank-you gifts, visit our Sponsor Page.)
In a project spearheaded by Southeastern Community College ceramics instructor Deena Sarvis and Art instructor September Krueger, students crafted several dozen of the gifts for the second year in a row.
Leading the students were Angelina Brown-McCullum and Antonio McCullum. They were assisted by Korey Caines, Candace Pridgen, Collin Ross, Todd Scott, Tyler Williamson and David Worley.
The instructors use this project as an opportunity to teach concepts needed in quantity artwork. Creating a single art piece has various opportunities and constraints, but creating several dozen pieces alike offers a whole new set of challenges.
"They have dealt with concepts of efficiencies and structure," said Krueger. "They have worked with a stamp to create the logo, and have designed a beautiful yet simple piece that will stand upright."
Shaped like a policeman's badge with a Take the Lake logo set in the front, the pieces are glazed in black, all for the 2013 theme of law enforcement. Circular depressions are set it the backs to hold the 2013 Crew Tokens.
The Take the Lake board of directors and organizing committee are extremely grateful to SCC for this project, as it helps show their appreciation to the event's major sponsors and volunteers. The question that is heavy on the members' minds is; how do you thank the people who make your thank-you gifts?
