After fighting for our country for years, Columbus County veterans are finding people ready to fight for them. Take the Lake is teaming up with Quality Ford to help build excitement for the free event this Labor Day weekend, offering early registrants chances to win a pair of beautiful Ford Mustangs. Register here! Take the Lake, in its third year, has adopted a theme program, starting with the patriotic theme of military and veterans for 2011. What makes our themes different than those of other events, is that when we adopt a theme, we also target members of that group as honored participants. Take the Lake is challenging the more than 4,000 Columbus County veterans to participate this year, either walking, running, cycling or paddling around Lake Waccamaw, or swimming across it. In many fitness events, participants act in the name of a relative or friend. But, we encourage our participants to take this a step further, and rather than walk, cycle, paddle or swim “for” a veteran, to actually team up and walk “with” the veteran. Quality Ford has found a national drawing that benefits the Healing Heroes Network, an organization that provides treatment to “the men and women of the armed forces injured in the line of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan on or after Sept. 11, 2001.”
REGISTER HERE for either the Take the Lake Classic or Take the Lake X-TREME! The winner of the drawing will receive a pair of Boss 302 Ford Mustangs, including a classic 1969 limited edition restored and in show condition, and a 2012 exclusive Patriot Edition. Drawing organizers will even pay federal withholding taxes equal to 25 percent of the prize, which is valued at more than $100,000. Quality Ford has bought 260 tickets for this drawing, and we will give one to each of the first 260 people who register for the September event. More than 60 people have already registered, so fewer than 200 tickets remain. This is really a win-win-win event. Baird King at Quality Ford has made a nice donation to the Healing Heroes Network, and that will help veterans everywhere. And the drawing will encourage veterans (and everyone else!) to register early for Take the Lake, then train all summer and cruise through their Personal Endurance Challenges in September! Drawing for the Mustangs will be July 4, but participation in at least one Take the Lake Personal Endurance Challenge is required to win. Prize awards will be withheld until the September event. Register today! Join in the TTL training fun, and leave a comment!
